No more BIG FAT HOLIDAY BUTS

December was a slow writing month for me.

It was full of great Big Fat Holiday Buts. .. Such as…

I was going to work on editing my third novel, Away Over Yonder, BUT I had to put up the Christmas tree and then I had way too much Christmas shopping to do.

I was going to find the perfect cover photo for my book, Away Over Yonder, BUT I got side tracked looking at all the pretty Christmas decorations and doing on-line shopping.

I was going to keep writing on my current WIP, BUT I had more Christmas packages to wrap.

I was going to write another blog post, BUT I had to attend another holiday party.

Well, I think you get the idea. I’ve been sitting on a whole lot of BIG FAT HOLIDAY BUTS.

However, since the end of the Christmas season is finally upon us, I’ve started writing on my WIP again and have written over 5k words.  I’m also scheduled to go over my edits early next week and – well – I’ve written this blog post. At least it’s a start.

So – Happy New Year and Cheers to 2013.

I’m very close to being done with the 2012 holiday season. I just have one more holiday related party and then I will take down my tree. Hopefully, I’ll soon be back to some semblance of a normal writing life. (Normal writing life? Does that even make sense?)

Keep smiling and Enjoy Always, T

How She met her Lover – story #1 of many.

This is a little story I heard recently in response to my often asked question: How did you meet your Lover?

Jenny had gone to a local bar with her sister and some friends to celebrate her sister’s recent promotion at work. She wasn’t much of a regular attendee at bars and this night she ended up drinking a club soda and sitting a bit apart from her sister, who was getting a bit too drunk, but who can blame her it was her celebration.

Jenny was sitting at one of those taller bar tables where you have to sit on a bar stool, not a regular table, when she took note of a man sitting down on the bar stool next to her. She took note that he was a rather nice looking man, but other than that she paid him no attention. After all, she was suppose to be there with her sister and while she was single, she wasn’t on the lookout for a new man in her life. Well, you know what they say about when you’re not looking.

Soon after the man took a seat next to her, she heard him being greeting by another man, apparently one of his buddies.

Buddy asked Man sitting next to Jenny; “So who’s your friend?”

Man sitting next to Jenny answered; “I don’t know her and I don’t think she want’s to know me.”

This, of course, intrigued Jenny. Without a moment of hesitation she turned to the Man sitting next to her and asked, “Why would you say that?”

Looking a little chagrin to have been overheard, the Man sitting next to Jenny said, “Because you’ve ignored me since I sat down.”

Jenny chuckled, “That doesn’t mean I don’t want to know you. It only means I didn’t make an effort to strike up a conversation with you. Just because you took a seat next to me doesn’t mean I have to talk to you.” But even as she said that, she knew it would have been a nice and polite thing to do.

Which he quickly pointed out by saying, “But if you DID want to know me, wouldn’t you have made the effort?”

Of course, he also could have started a conversation with her, but he hadn’t.

Jenny said, “Maybe I didn’t say anything because I’m shy.” Which of course wasn’t’ true, as demonstrated by her ability to easily jump in to his conversation with his buddy.

Man next to her said, “Well, are you?”

Jenny asked, “Am I what? Shy?”

“No, interested in getting to know me?” Man said.

Well, now Jenny had a problem. She could either admit she had no interest in meeting the Man sitting next to her, (which seemed rude) or she could claim that yes, she wanted to know all about him. Feeling frisky and up for the challenge, she opted to go with the latter option to see where it would lead. Besides, she figured if things turned sour, she could always go in search of her sister to dump the guy. (Harsh, but true.)

Jenny soon learned that Man sitting next to her was named Bob, and they spent the next hour discussing the merits of mating rituals conducted at bars, among other such topics. Jenny had a grand time, Bob made her laugh, always a good sign, and they had such a good time that before the evening was over, they exchanged contact info. They then arranged to meet again for dinner to continue their intense conversation, and they soon discovered in each other someone they wanted to get to know better.

Several months later they’re still having intense conversations and are well on their way to happily ever after, or where ever else their romantic journey may take them.

So how did Jenny met her lover?

She ignored him until he got her attention.

Enjoy always, T

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Well, folks, it’s that time of the year again, when we pull out the bright and shiny Christmas decorations and let them shine. It’s time to dust off the boxes that sat in storage for the last 11 months and remind ourselves just what all did I pack away last year! Oh yeah, I’m still hanging onto Mom’s cross-stitch gingerbread house; what a treasure. Hey kids, here are your handmade ornaments from when you were little.  And look, here’s another pink flamingo  ornament. How fun. I do love pink flamingo Christmas ornaments.

I’ve already put out my pre-decorated Pink Flamingo 3 foot high Christmas tree and I plan to get a real one to decorate this weekend. It always takes longer than I expect. Of course that could have something to do with wanting to get it just right and having over 300 ornaments, (not all of them are pink flamingos).

I also have a collection of Santa’s – of course – but not much for Snowmen. However, I do have seven nativity scenes; big ones, little one and ones in-between.

Downtown San Francisco is also decked out in balls of holly and jolly. It’s not as much as in years past, economics being what they are and all, but it’s still looking good.

I haven’t really gotten a good start on my Christmas shopping. Nothing like a good old, fast-approaching deadline to get the body moving. Last weekend there was too much rain. Okay, I know that’s just a lame excuse, but for now, it’s my excuse. I plan to start this weekend. Really I do….. In fact, I think I’ll run now. I hear a store sale calling my name.

Enjoy always and holiday Cheers to you all, T

Greetings at Lord Gavin Goodman’s Glorious Gala.

Charming letter G

Golden Glowing G.

“Where do you think you’re going in that gauzy get-up?” General George Geiger gawked at his granddaughter with a guarded grin as she glided gracefully toward the garage door.

Gwendolyn ground to a halt and glanced at her garment. She was dressed as a Greek goddess in an iridescent gown of glowing golden gauze with gems galore gracing her gangly neck and arms.

“Why, to Lord Gavin Goodman’s Glorious Gala, of course,” she replied. “Don’t you remember, Grand Papa? Tonight is the Gaudy G themed masquerade ball.”

“Oh, yes. Yes, of course. How could I forget?” he grumbled.

Gwendolyn smiled graciously. It was obvious he was getting on in years and had forgotten the event. She returned to his side and gave him a hug. “Oh, Grand Papa, I do wish you could go. I’m sure the night will be grand and glorious. It’s said to be the grandest party of the year.” She sighed with glee.

“In my younger years I would have gladly escorted you to this glorious gala. I was a right fine gentleman in my prime, but those days are gone, now.” A glint of sadness graced his gaunt features.

“Will you be all right on your own?” Gwendolyn asked with great concern.

“Good as gold,” her grandfather answered with overdone gusto. “Go, go, have a good time.” He waved her off with a gallant gesture.

Gwendolyn gave her grandfather one final kiss on his cheek before she gingerly gathered her gauzy skirts and glided toward the door.

The gala masquerade was being held on a grand old Spanish galleon that had seen its better days out at sea, but now rested gracefully at Lord Gavin’s dock down at pier 39. Gwendolyn was giddy with anticipation as she climbed the gangway leading up to the galleon. The grand old ship was glamorously festooned with garlands of lights twinkling gaily  and the music of GreenDay filled the air.

Making her way through the gregarious crowd, she wondered if she would be so gifted as to garner a gaze from Lord Goodman. Gawking at the Gaudily costumed guests, she saw  gay gypsies, green genies, gruff gorillas, German generals, gory goblins and grotesque gargoyles garbed in gray, just to name a few.

And then she saw him, Lord Gavin Goodman, grandly garbed as a Gentleman Gaucho. A genuine smile graced his genteel face. Gwendolyn gasped. He was gorgeous, if such could be said about a gentleman Gaucho.

Lord Gavin stepped forward, looked into her glazed-over green eyes, graced her hand with a kiss, and said, “Greetings, my dear Greek goddess. I believe it’s my sincere pleasure to meet you. May I have this dance.”

Gwendolyn gushed with gratitude. What a glorious gala this would be. . .

Enjoy always, T

Wonderfully Supportive.

On Veterans Day, a day when we stop to remember all the good and noble people who have served the U.S. in the armed forces, I am very thankful for all of us who support each other in our daily endeavors. BTW, I served in the Navy four years active and two years reserve, and am a certifiable vet. Thanks, it was my pleasure.

Today is the Veterans Day holiday observed in the US, and since I work for a bank, I have the day off. I have been using my morning to cruise the internet for fellow bloggers, authors, writers services, cover designs and artists, blogs, etc, you name it. I gave myself this little block of playtime as I usually find there’s way too much stuff to look at in my limited time allotted, and today of course is no different. I could cruise for hours and only see a smidgen of what’s out there. (oh wait, that is exactly what I’ve been doing.) I have a number of blog buddies, but it’s hard to find the time to read all of their wonderful posts. I LEA them all. (LEA = like, enjoy, appreciate)

But, with all that said, what I really want to say is how wonderfully supportive everyone is to each other (more often then not). For the most part, we tend to love life, and life loves us back.

Now, isn’t that Grand and Glorious on a major scale?

God bless us humans, we really have it going on.

Enough said, Enjoy Always.  T

BTW, will be back soon with more ABC’s of Romance. Hope you’ve enjoyed reading them as much as I have writing them. It’s been such fun.
